Hi all,
On the Saturday evening at the "Scot Hut", we will have all the equipment needed to dye your own discs. So if you saw Jesse's prize discs at QP last tourny and want to have something similar in your bag, why not have a go!
For those of you who this is completely new, the process of doing this is relatively simple, making a vinyl stencil to create a mask that is applied to the disc. The disc is then dipped into dye. Where there is no vinyl, the dye is absorbed. Where the vinyl is stuck down, the vinyl blocks the dye. (watch acidbaths disc dying 101&102 on youtube!)
The designs can be a easy or as complex as you wish, but you run more risk of bleeds with intricate complex designs. You can use single or mulitple colours, again it just takes more time! (nb you cannot dye a disc lighter!)
so... what you need to do....
Firstly shout up if your interested so we know we have enough stuff.
Secondly find a disc you want to dye OR buy a new one! You can really only dye Champ, star, elite Z or ESP plastic and old scuffed up discs are very likely to have bleeds (the dye creaps into unseen gaps or cuts and spoils the design)
Thirdly find the design you want, either send it to me or print it off and bring it with you. CDGC has bought a plotter and hope to have it up and running, but we are having some teething problems and we will plan on hand cutting the stencils unless we hear otherwise.
We will have all the vinyl, dyes (mutliple colours so let me know if any specific requests), scaples and acetone etc you will need.
I have been dying discs sporadically for about a year, some of you may have seen them about, and will post up a few examples of stuff i have done.... this is not an exact science, we are all still learning so i cannot guarantee your disc will be perfect, its all your own responsiblity! but we can help as best we can!!
So, if you have any questions or just want to know more, drop me a line and i will do my best to answer,
Cheers,
Phil
