Me again, being all gung ho. It's all I've got to look forward to at the moment.

7/8th March

http://www.bdga.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=756

I assume I'll be seeing a fair few of you there. Think we can get anywhere near our 16(?) members that attended QP Open last year? I'm sure one of us will take the Int Am win. Good luck to Rich, Dan and Ali if Jed is present (he won IntAm with a score that put him 3rd over all at Whitcombe, so will be moving up one level for now).

Anyway, GO TEAM!

Just played (and won) the first QP Pro/Am handicap doubles comp today. A couple of notes on the course, though you'll get a better idea when you see it.

1) Hole 4 now has mando posts on BOTH sides. No big anhyzers for Ali. You have to go down the channel.

2) Hole 13 is a very bizarre par 4 starting a little way into the woods. Basically a simple short wooded approach out to the fairway, about 10ft in front of the old tee, then the same old hole. A sidearm may get you a little further up the fairway from the first shot, but not so much it makes a difference. Apparently there were complaints there were no par 4s. Now you just plonk it out of the trees and play the same old par 3  I'd like to see what the likes of Jester and Bruce think of this.

Look forward to next weekend now. Threw a 66, modified best shot doubles with my dad who has never played before, so my target is to get under that all weekend.

Ivan was describing this new tee position for Snakebite to me at Frostbreaker. I'm very keen to see it for myself as the way he talked about it a long, turning backhand drive out over the OB in the top field would be a possible route.

I only won cos Paul didn't listen to me when I told him my handicap was too high.

I don't know how possible that shot would be Jester since the tunnel you start in is quite tight and the wind always blows from the Avon over the hedge. You'd certainly need a Stratus or beat up Roc. I think Del needs to widen the exit, i.e. cut down some more trees on the right, to make this a tempting route. Will be extremely interesting to see what people try though. Roll on the weekend!

I think he was just playing mind games with you Jester

I'll reserve judgement until I play it a few times. If there's any genuine risk reward on the first shot, I'll probably like it, if not...

When's everybody arriving at QP? I figure I'm going to get the train to Leamington for early Friday afternoon to get a relaxed round in before night falls.

He might have been, but he didn't sound too impressed with the design himself.

So; how did Croydon get on at the Spring Fling?

I reckon we did pretty well. In very difficult conditions, with the wind blowing a gale with a mixture of rain sleet and a little sunshine we had a number of players involved in the prize giving.

Jesters' challenge to Dels dominance was very strong. 3 down with just 2 to play he birdies 17 and nails a monster putt on the 18th to tie. Unfortunately he couldn't get passed the champ and secured 2nd in the playoff. Bruce was placed 3rd ensuring that our 2 open players continue their prominence as 2 of the best players in the UK.

In the Ams I finished 4th overall a country mile behind RickRick who won with some stunning golf. (he would have been 4th in the open I believe)

Ali shot a magnificent Ace on hole 2 (ironically, the hole that Jester lost the playoff on) and secured the Ace Pool of about £50.

Both Stew and I won CTP on the seperate days on hole 10. Stews shot resting against the pin while mine was a good distance back of that.

On the hole a fantastic weekend was had... barring the contraversy that the weak willed among us had to contend with  another fantastic weekend of great golf, great company and incredible weather... cant wait for the next one.
