Hi All,

We need to get this years event organised and are quickly running out of time. Your illustirous leader has already done way too much this year for the club and its time for some other lucky soul to step up and help me organise the Cup this year.

All this will involve (unless you want to do more) Is to contact all your members and arrange the best dates available for them and keep in contact with me about it.

We want to encourage as many new players as possible - i.e. those that haven't played any BDGA events or even local competitions and this is where the harder work might come in in trying to persaude them to come and play - a first event like this can be daunting for anyone. It is however a great way to get people more involved in the competitive side of the game.

If you have more time to commit Rich wanted to make up some Top Trump style cards for the event and it would be great if someone could take this off his hands as well.

The preferred date for the first leg for QP players would still be either the saturday or sunday of the 28th/9th of November but we are fairly flexible. Generally the feeling is we would prefer not to play both legs on the same weekend.

Anyway if you could let me know ASAP if you would be interested in sorting this please contact me either by PM or to my work email richard@abracardabra.co.uk

Thanks

Rich Hatton

It looks like Bruce and Jester are stepping up to the plate, so thanks for this guys. I'm sure they would appreciate any offers of help available though.

As Rich Hatton (here after referred to as Mr Ratton, to avoid an confusion with our own Dear Leader) mentioned, Bruce and I are on board to organise the Team Croydon for the 09/10 Hyzer Cup.

We'll be contacting all CDGC players by email and pointing them to THIS thread where all information will be posted.

First Leg
Sunday 29 November
Quarry Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

Can you play or not? Please go to this poll now and tell us:
www.doodle.com/participation.html?pollId=qqv4qeifhfyd8hb6

Second Leg
Date TBD
Lloyd Park, Croydon, London

What days can you play? Please tell us here:
www.doodle.com/participation.html?pollId=3atvxswp97kstthb

NB as much as we'd like players to be available for both legs, if you can only make one that's fine. What IS really important however is the overall number of players, and who they are as Bruce and I need to put together Doubles partnerships and decide on playing order, so PLEASE note your availability accurately!

Thanks

I'll be driving from West London (Hammersmith) - not sure if that's any use to anyone, but let me know if it is.

With any luck I'll be coming up with Jerry? any space for little (read somewhat over weight) old me.

I'll bring a CD! Does your stereo actually work with CDs other than Oasis? Bit of Zep, Jimmy, Cream, BMR etc etc?

I'm not sure that playing the guitar while driving would be a good idea, you might become distracted form the task of shouting and swearing at everyone else on the road!

I Don't own an accoustic guitar at the moment either and my amplifier is the size of a car in itself .

I could bring the banjo but I can only play a couple of songs on that, perhaps I could bring the sax?

I've got a portable(ish) 24 track recorder, we could make an album!

Can you fit a drum kit in the boot? Jester plays drums I think, seem to remember him telling be his broke his pinkie with a badly aimed rim-shot. ooh-er.....erm that didn't come out right!

Seriously now though, I would appreciate a lift.

1st Leg of the Hyzer Cup is Sunday 29th November at Quarry Park. www.quarrypark.co.uk/

Seeing as sunset on 29th is at 3.59pm, everything will have to be wrapped up by then. Google Maps suggests it takes 2.20 hours to drive from the course back to Croydon, so it would appear you should be ok to get back fro 6.30pm.

Rich Hatton, could you confirm a schedule for the day please so we can get an idea of start times and the like? Cheers.

So, after talking to everyone at the Croydon Cup on Saturday, and looking at the responses on the poll www.doodle.com/participation.html?pollId=qqv4qeifhfyd8hb6 our team for the 1st Leg as it stands so far is 15 which is brilliant:

James Bates
Paul Bates
Hippie Dan
Josh (Hippie Dan's lad)
Tom Lowes
Oz Freire
Jester
Bruce
Jerry
Neil Prebble
Phil Wood
Charlie Myall
Rich O
Stewart Gudgeon
Phil Wood
Andy Toy Lucey

Anyone know of any names missing?

TBC

Schedule will be fairly liquid same as last year.

Start time approximately 9 - We will wait for all arrivals (within reason) but please try to be there before nine so we can get everyone sorted and away for a 9 oclock tee off - first round to finish approximately 12.

Lunch - approximately half an hour, please bring food with you as there won't really be time to get to local shops. Singles match ups will be picked at lunch.

afternoon round to start approximately 12.30/1.00 to finish aroud 3.30 / 4. You should be back in Croydon by 6 - 6.30.

We will try to have as short a lunch as possible to keep everybody warm and moving.

Sorry Gentlemen, whilst it may be true that I could not scrape together 15 friends (I believe pets and family don't count) QP has so far confirmed 20 players (the number first tentatively agreed with Rich) and will now be turning away anyone that responded too late.

Once again it looks like the Croydonites will have to go cap in hand to their friends and neighbours and beg for them to bail them out of trouble. Because we're generous though we'll ask the girls and kids on our team to go easy on you, the thought of Jerrys tears in defeat to a 15 year old upset me....
