Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. By doing sport, having fun and raising money, everyone can do good and feel good. All the money raised is spent helping poor and disadvantaged people turn their lives around - in the UK as well as the world’s poorest countries. The next Sport Relief Weekend is from Friday 19th - Sunday 21st March

www.sportrelief.com/

One of the main things they do is the 'sport relief mile', where people run or walk a mile for sponsorship. It occurred to me that a mile is 1609m, and the Croydon course is 1683m, which is a pretty good match.

I think it would be an excellent idea to do a 'disc golf mile', a one-disc challenge to complete the course as quickly as possible, and combine it with an introduction to disc golf day/session, all while raising as much money as possible.

The nearest running mile is Beckenham on the Sunday, so Sat 20th would be best.

Even if it's just the 20 or so of us who play in the Hyzer Cup we could still raise a decent total.
What do you reckon?

now...... we have also been shooting the breeze with regard to doing a charity gig....

there have been musings about a 24 hour sponsored disc golfing day!

flaming hard work and probably a tad harsh on the arm... although I am sure that some sort of relay could be arranged, as we would be making up the rules... might be a bit of fun and could certainly be mixed in with coaching, advertising and the like...

comments other than expletives welcome!

We should rise to the occassion..
and engage the public...
get the ADVIRTISER/GUARDIAN Involved...even CASSAC ?
Great oppertunity to spread the Disc golf word
more fun for family's too,a lot better than just pounding out a mile round a track, local schools would be a great target
I'm up for it..

Do Sport relief offer an organisers pack ? (of some discription )
You know Flyers, banners, anything ?
I would suggest a simple format to the public
a set charge for a round ,use of a Disc (refundable deposit disc's numbered etc )

Yes, there is a free fundraising pack you can get on the website. I was going to order it, but figured it would be more use down your way!

24hr vs 1 mile challenge.
I guess they appeal to different groups of people. The 1 mile thing would appeal to the local orientiering and fitness groups, is TV/camera friendly and more 'sporty', in terms of athletic endeavour.
24hr golf is just folks playing golf for a long time, which I can see is more attractive to the less athletically inclined

Another option would be to complete a disc golf marathon? 26 rounds on the course, one disc relay, it can be completed in stages, so a family could do a hole each then pass it on?

i think the better idea would be to go for the get new people involved. would there be a happy compremise?
as a croydon club i'm sure we have 26 members so as a club we could throw a single disc a mile each there for completing a disc marathon. while person is carrying the batton (disc) others could encourage others to have ago.
