Friday 7th August saw the installation of the slightly new layout of the course in Lloyd Park.
I will sort the individual Tee signs soon and ask Jester if he can work his magic with Google Maps for the website.

CHANGES:

Tee 5 has been moved over to the hedge (where we have been playing from for some time)

Tee 8 has moved back approx 10 metres (where we have been playing from for some time)

Hole 11... The tee has moved back 20 metres and the basket has moved forward 30 metres. This has now become a Par 4.

Hole 13. The basket has been moved to a spot over the brow of Hangmans hill and place in between two trees some 30 metres and at 10 O'Clock from the old position. This is also now a Par 4.

Holes 9 and 14 have been reseated as has the Tee of hole 10.

Enjoy

Hey and thanks for the course update.

I played on Saturday and was really confused by the 11th. Tee found okay but could not find the basket for love nor money. At least, I don't think I could. Ended up playing to one that I thought was the 13th, or maybe that was the 11th but the 13th wasn't there! If anyone can provide some assistance for that corner I'd really appreciate it.

Or I could be patient and wait for some Google Earth / Maps magic, but I want to play again and know where I'm going!

As a third option, if Jester in particular is busy, maybe I could help with making a new aerial shot? Would certainly improve my knowledge I'm sure!
Mesmerically,

Michael.

We have a new aerial map, which will be up on the site shortly. The new tee signs have been prepared and i'm just waiting for printer ink and some time to get them up as well.

The 11th hole is visible from the tee, par 4 distance just to the left of the faraway tree (near to the old 123th hole placement.

I did a provo map update for Rich on Monday this week, I'm sure Charlie will get it up on the site as soon as he can. He may be waiting for a confirmed version which I had hoped to complete last night after doing a rangefinder/clinometre course survey to get hole lengths and the rise/drop on each. Unfortunately the weather was so minging this wasn't possible, I'll get it done soon but in the meantime the provo map is pretty accurate (good to go up on site when you're ready, Charlie!)

As for the 11th and 13th holes, both have been significantly extended into par 4s.

The 11th basket has been pushed back in a straight line away from the tee, about 50-60 yards past its old location. You can see it clearly from the tee, but you may be thinking this is the new 13th basket position which is incorrect.

The 13th basket has been pushed back over the hill and too the left a little adding about 30-40yards to the hole. From the 13th tee the line to the basket is now pretty much directly through the ancient Hangman's Tree on top of the hill. When playing the 10th, as you walk forward off the tee 10y look right and you'll see the 13th.

Hope this helps until the provo map is uploaded.

That's tremendously useful, thank you very much.

I definitely remain keen to help out in any way I can. (even though it seems you're way on top of the mapping and course admin.)
Mesmerically,

Michael.

It's always great to hear of people keen to help! We will certainly need all hands on deck for the Croydon Cyclone in a few weeks so be prepared when Richard puts out the call.

Cool. I'm hoping to get down to the course over the weekend and finish the surveying, will send you all the data for the site and to Rich for the new tee signs.

Thanks thanks for making it Jester! I have also made a couple of changes to the text on the page as well.

Thanks Michael,

It had to be done, in the long run it is going to save me hours of time.

Avoiding thread drift by keeping short.

Cheers
Charlie

Now we've played them a few times, how are people finding the two new holes?

I was happy to be 2ing old 11 more often than not, so the new position has added two shots to my rounds seeing as I haven't managed better than a 4 on it yet.

I have 5ed and 3ed new 13. The 5 was from cack drive in to the trees that previously I would've likely recovered a 4 from, so good that another shot has been added to punish bad drives. It makes it so much more important to get in the clear so you can at least try to get over the hill on shot two.

11 is a tricky one for me, keep getting too far right on 2nd shot. still a 4 tho. I think it'll eat up newbies tho

13 is better than I thought it would be. it'll be better once the grass under hangmans tree is cut. sods law that I have nailed a 2nd shot both times i have played it and been within 2 metres of the old hole

I still would like to extend 17 next year, if we can find a good site for the 13th tee. Then put the 17th basket in and around the current 13th tee.

Two birdie 3's on 11 for me so far, no real dramas. It feels like once you've got it past the bush on the left, it *should* be a straight forward up and down.

Only played 13 the once, and ended up with a 5 trying to force the drive over to the left hand side, but I felt it should have been a 4 anyway really. No idea how to 3 it yet, as I haven't had enough goes! Good hole though I think.

I'm in two minds about the 17/13 conundrum. I've always liked the old 17, but can see the proposed hole being a really good classic par 4. On the other hand, I think the new 13 is going to be a good one too, and I'm very dubious that there is a good alternate tee for it. As soon as you start moving closer to the hole, you're straight into the hill, and you don't get many good tees on hills!

Cheers, Rich, very nice to get feedback like this, make the effort worth it.

The style of the map is exactly the same as the one I did for Jesse and the Brit Open handbook earlier this year. If you'd like that map combined with a table of distances I'd be happy to put it together for you. I don't know when I'll next be at QP however, but if you want to make you own Clinometre (see here, it's a doddle: http://www.answers.com/topic/clinometer ) and do the measuring I can assemble the data.

With Bruce's Trigonometry knowledge I've created an XLS that uses hole length (in yards) and angle (in degrees) to calculate the rise or drop in yards, feet and metres. (fact fans, the formula is: SIN(angle) x hole length)

Let me know.
