BDGA tour event number 2, saw the disc golfers of England, joined by a few Yanks, descend upon the Quarry Park for the Spring Fling. CDGC were again well represented at the weekend with Bruce Webber, Dan ‘LankyYankee’ Ryan join the chairman – Rich Wood in the Open division. In the Ad Am division Phil Wood was joined by Terry Tenger. In the Int Ams CDGC were represented by summer league champ Francis Wilson, Dan ’Hippy’ Hawkins and Neil Martin. Neil was making his first appearance at an event outside of Croydon.

QP has undergone a lot of changes in recent months and TD Jesse Denny was keen to test all players to the max. The competition was to be played over 4 rounds, with no final and split over the “new” course – including extended holes and two new holes deep in the woods, familiar to CDGC from the Hyzer cup,  and the “old” course on its original layout.  

After waking from a bitterly cold night, the CDGC contingent shock off the frost and set about the task at hand. The first round was to be played over the new course and yet again it was Derek Robbins making the pace, hitting a course record 52. Dan Ryan snapping at his heels with Bruce. Phil took the lead in the Ams with a 61 but Fran Dan and Neil struggled to keep with the leaders in the Int Ams.

Over the next three rounds Dan Ryan shot incredibly well with all four rounds in the 50’s, but with Del in red hot form, had to settle for 2^nd place. Bruce was edged out into 4^th and Rich in his first Open division tournament picked up the wooden spoon...or calculator in this case. Phil went from good to bad, eventually limping home in joint 3^rd, only to lose the subsequent playoff hole to Andy Cotrgreave. Fran held onto 3^rd place in the Int Ams with some solid golf.

One place that CDGC did prove more successful was in the spot prizes, with the longest drive on hole 14 favouring left handed players or sidearms, CDGC had a clean sweep with lefty Dan Ryan and side arm specialists Phil and Fran crushing drives to take the divisional CTPs and each take home a box of malteasers! Phil would also have taken the longest putt but QP’s Rich Hatton pipped him by 6 inches with almost the last putt of the day.

So once again a good tourney for CDGC and  special thanks would like to be extended to Jesse Denny for not only running another great event, but for also taking sympathy on the CDGC campers and providing a roof and the warmth of his house for the Saturday night!  

On the  tour Del is 2 for 2 so will take some stopping in the open division -Bruce, Jester, Dan the challenge has been laid down! Phil and Oxdiscs Ben Foxall have both won and come 3^rd in the Am division so there is plenty left to play for. All eyes now head north to Burnlaw for the Snowbow at the end of March. CDGC will see you there!
