Wednesday 5th September saw the last night of the 2012 Summer League Season.
The 5th Year of SL saw, for the very first time, the player with the smallest handicap,
Dan Ryan, play so well that he won the title. In years gone by, as we have been fine tuning the handicaps
the better players have been at a huge disadvantage as they have to play incredibly well to post low
score. The handicap system seems to be working really well and so every player has a fair chance. Dans
performance over the year has been spectacular and he thoroughly deserves the title. Dans closest competition
came from Newbie, Will Bolton. Wills game has really come on massively over the summer. He's worked hard on
his game and is still trying to tame that massive arm. He's gonna be some player once his control levels out.
Will had a chance at taking the title on the very last evening but failed by just a couple of shots, and those drops
came in the last few holes. James Burton bagged his way to take third spot with some amazing up and down scores over
the summer. The fourth player to cash from this years league snuck in on the very last week. Shooting a -2 61 Hippy
Dan Hawkins took 3 shots off his PB to snatch the last cashing position.
American visitor Steve Martin very kindly donated 3 Discraft Discs to the Club and it was decided to award these to
Tony Cermak who was the played the most summer league rounds. The other two discs went to the two latest members to
Join CDGC, Aussie Jason Vidot and South African, Morne. So an international winners list with 2 Yanks, 1 Aussie, 1 Saffer,
3 Brits and a Hippy! Multicultural Sport anyone?!
Big thanks go to Phil Wood who organised the SL this year as well as Tom Lowes who yet again was a fine Statto. Thanks
also to the guys who stepped up and helped on the weeks that Phil couldn't get there.
